Marlene Brown lives in Harrietsfield, Nova Scotia, where a defunct construction and demolition facility has contaminated her community’s groundwater with dangerous chemicals and heavy metals. She’s using Ecojustice’s legal expertise to prevent a company from having its name removed from the government of Nova Scotia’s cleanup order. That could set a dangerous precedent and might halt the cleanup and monitoring that would make their water drinkable.
Government enforcement of strong environmental laws could ensure that Marlene and others wouldn’t have to fear for their health and well-being when they turn on the tap.
Marlene is making an important legal stand because she believes the law can protect her community’s right to safe and clean drinking water.
