Water conservation wins in Ontario

Randy ChristensenLawyer

Yesterday, Ontario celebrated the creation of a new Water Opportunities and Water Conservation Act.

The new legislation was passed by the Ontario legislature in a 59 to 25 vote that will now see the legislation become law. The new act, worked on extensively by Ecojustice and our partners at the Water Conservation Alliance, charts a new course for water management in Ontario that provides for significant investment in water sector innovation with water conservation being an integral goal of the legislation.

From the Ontario government newsroom:

The Ontario Legislature passed the Water Opportunities and Water Conservation Act yesterday. The act builds on Ontario’s expertise in water protection services and technology — making our province the leading clean water jurisdiction in North America.

The new law is good news for conservationists, green industry, and the Ontario economy. Ecojustice will be continuing to work on the file during its implementation in the months ahead. Read all about Ecojustice’s work on the issue here, and check back for more developments.
