Dear supporter,

I hope you and your loved ones are all keeping safe and well. Today, I wanted to check in and share what you can expect from Ecojustice as our communities grapple with COVID-19:

  • Ecojustice’s work to build the case for a better Earth continues. In light of this public health crisis, the political and social landscape will continue to shift, but you can trust the Ecojustice team is up for the challenge and prepared to adapt to these changing circumstances. In the coming weeks, you can count on us to stay in touch with relevant news updates.
  • We’re “social distancing”. As of late last week, the Ecojustice team has been working remotely in an effort to keep our staff and communities safe and do our part to slow the spread of COVID-19.
  • Please bear with us! Our phone lines and email inboxes remain open. It may take us longer than normal to respond to inquiries and process mailed-in gifts and tax receipts (note: the tax deadline has just been extended to June 1). We appreciate your understanding and patience.

Things are changing hour to hour. Every time I check the news, there’s more information about COVID-19 to take in, another breaking announcement to absorb. Though we’re being inundated with information at a dizzying speed, it feels like there is still much we don’t know yet.

And yet, I take comfort in the fact that our fellow Canadians are, overwhelmingly, caring and resilient people. For every story about toilet paper hoarding, I’m hearing ten good news stories — about neighbours looking out for one another, about folks organizing to support local businesses likely to be hit hard by the economic effects of the pandemic, and about people coming up with all kinds of creative ways to stay in touch while social distancing.

We are also seeing, in real time, that different levels of governments can work together, unite behind the science, and rapidly mobilize resources to fight a public health emergency.

Know that even in this uncertain time, the Ecojustice team remains committed as ever to using the power of the law to defend nature, combat the climate emergency, and fight for your environmental rights. There is no shortage of work to be done.

Thank you for everything you do to support Ecojustice. The need is great and we are so grateful to have you at our side. Your advocacy, generous donations, and warm words of encouragement keep us going, especially in these uncertain times.

In the meantime, please take good care of yourself and your loved ones. Keep well, keep connected, and together we will get through this.

– Devon
