OTTAWA — Environmental groups, Ecology Action Centre and Living Oceans Society, will be in court tomorrow, Tuesday, October 18, to overturn a ruling that upheld the federal government’s approval of the development of genetically-modified salmon at unknown sites in Canada — against the advice of scientific experts.
Represented by lawyers from Ecojustice, the groups are seeking clarity from the court on the government’s duty to comply with the Canadian Environmental Protection Act (CEPA) and take a precautionary, science-based approach when making decisions concerning genetically-modified food organisms.
Both Ecojustice lawyers and representatives from Ecology Action Centre and Living Oceans Society are available for comment about tomorrow’s court appearance.
