I’m Karen, and I believe that when local communities come together to defend their air and water, we can keep fossil fuels in the ground.

I want my kids to grow up in a world where people no longer have to worry about the quality of their air and water because they live near oil and gas developments or pipelines, which most often come with huge risks and few benefits for communities. Fossil fuels production is also driving climate change, and this needs to stop. That’s why grassroots groups seek our legal help to defend their air, land and water from the fossil fuel industry. Thanks to your support, we can be there.

My holiday wish is for community-led actions to keep turning the tide in the fight for a safe, stable climate.

In May, we were in Federal Court on behalf of local residents opposed to a thermal coal export facility on British Columbia’s Fraser River. If built, this project would see up to four million tonnes of dirty coal shipped through Canadian communities, increasing risks to public health and our climate. Each day of the hearing, I was inspired to see community members alongside us in court.

When you support Ecojustice, you become part of a global movement committed to keeping fossil fuels in the ground. Communities around the world are taking legal action to combat climate change. From the United States to India and New Zealand, we are seeing more lawsuits that challenge governments’ failures to take meaningful action on climate change.

With your support, we will continue to help community groups take strategic legal actions to keep fossil fuels in the ground. We have big plans for 2018. But we need you to stand with us.

In solidarity,

Karen Campbell, climate change program director
