Enbridge’s Northern Gateway pipeline is dead, and hopefully gone for good.

Last fall, we appeared — alongside First Nations, environmental groups, and organized labour — before the Federal Court of Appeal to make the case for why the federal government’s approval of Enbridge’s controversial Northern Gateway pipeline should be revoked.

Today, the Court issued a strong ruling that overturns the government’s approval of the project, effectively shutting the door on Enbridge’s risky proposal.

We are thrilled. This decision is a major victory for people and the planet — and one that would not have been possible without the support of people like you.

From the gruelling project review process through to preparations for last fall’s historic hearings, we fought tirelessly to make sure environmental considerations were front and centre in the debate about this project.

And through it all, you stood with us. Thank you.

While we are hopeful that this landmark legal victory spells the end of Enbridge’s pipeline once and for all, we cannot let our guard down just yet.  The federal government and the company still have 60 days to appeal the Court’s decision.

In the meantime, we’re counting on your support to ensure that the new federal government lives up to its promises to enact a tanker ban on B.C.’s north coast and deliver a bold climate action plan.  Simply put, Canada cannot continue to double-down on tar sands expansion and new pipeline infrastructure if we are going to meet our climate commitments.

A better, brighter future is within our reach.  Your continued support will ensure we have the necessary resources to make this possible.
