Let me introduce you to Tim Gray and Muhannad Malas of Environmental Defence, who are boldly standing up to Volkswagen for putting your health at risk.
They, along with Kim Perrotta of the Canadian Association of Physicians for the Environment, are my Ecojustice Heroes for their unwavering commitment to the environment and public health.
Together, we filed a lawsuit to force the Minister of Environment and Climate Change to investigate Volkswagen for lying to the public and polluting the air we breathe. Though Volkswagen has already admitted to installing an illegal emissions-cheating “defeat device” in its diesel cars, making them capable of spewing up to 35 times the legal limit of deadly nitrogen oxides into the air, Canada has so far failed to prosecute the company.
Your support helped us launch this case. As we head into the next phase of this litigation to ensure Volkswagen is held to account for its environmental crime, we’ll be counting on your continued support.
A generous Ecojustice supporter has pledged up to $50,000 to match, dollar-for-dollar, every donation made before July 1. Double your impact when you donate today and help us make sure that corporations aren’t given a free licence to pollute.
This lawsuit is about citizen enforcement of the Canadian Environmental Protection Act — a federal law meant to prevent pollution and protect the environment and human health. That Tim, Muhannad and Kim have stepped up where the federal government has failed to act is a strong reminder that extraordinary things are accomplished by ordinary people like you and me.
Our case is just getting underway. The first hurdle we need to clear is getting the federal government to release important documents — something they’ve fought every step of the way.
I’ll be honest. This is going to be a tough case and we have a long road ahead of us. That’s why I’m asking you to back these Ecojustice Heroes and this critical case by making a gift today.
Please give today to double your impact and support heroes like Tim, Muhannad and Kim — and all of our clients who are courageously fighting for a brighter environmental future.
