Become a Guardian of Nature

Leave the legacy of a better earth.

Ecojustice envisions a future where the environment thrives, the climate is stable, and healthy communities are protected by effective, well-enforced laws.

Your legacy gift is a simple, tax-smart way to create a significant long-term investment in the protection of the environment through the power of law.

After your loved ones are taken into account, please consider a gift in your will to Ecojustice Canada Society to ensure our environment is safeguarded for generations to come.

How to leave a gift in your will

When you’re ready to write your will, we recommend meeting with a legal professional to ensure your wishes are clear and easy for your executor to carry out. There are many ways you to make a charitable gift, including:

Leaving a Residual Gift (click to expand)

One way to ensure that all remaining property passes to your chosen beneficiaries, is to leave the residue of your estate to Ecojustice after all other gifts have been made to your loved ones, and any bills or taxes have been paid. A residual gift can be either a percentage of what is left of your estate, or the full amount remaining.

Here’s an example of the wording you could use in your will:

I give to Ecojustice Canada Society, charitable registration number 13474 8474 RR0001, _____% of the residue of my estate, to be used at the discretion of the organization.”

You may choose to donate a specific amount of money or specific assets, such as publicly traded securities, to Ecojustice.

Here’s an example of the wording you could use in your will:

I give to Ecojustice Canada Society, charitable registration number 13474 8474 RR0001, the sum of $_____, to be used at the discretion of the organization.

How do I decide the amount of my gift when I don’t know what will be left in my estate? (click to expand)

There are several different ways you can structure your will to maintain its flexibility over time. Other than donating a specific sum of money or a specific asset, you can also donate a share (or percentage) of the residue of your estate after all other gifts to your loved ones have been made. This allows the gift to proportionately adjust over time as your estate does. We recommend talking to your professional advisor about the options that work best for your financial situation.

How big does my legacy gift have to be to make a difference? (click to expand)

We greatly appreciate the thoughtfulness that goes into making a gift to Ecojustice in your will, no matter how big or small. With a growing number of donors deciding to support Ecojustice in this way, the collective impact of legacy gifts is undeniable. Together, we will leave the earth a better place.

What if my financial situation changes in the future? (click to expand)

We are very grateful for your generous decision to include a gift to Ecojustice in your will, but understand that your circumstances may change in the future. With the help of your professional advisor you can update your will whenever you need to, or create a small amendment to your will (called a codicil) for specific changes.

“I feel concerned and wonder what will be left for future generations to enjoy. This is what drives my passion.”
