My name is Julia, and I am proud to be an Ecojustice lawyer.

Thanks to the generous support of people like you, my colleagues and I have the rare privilege of practicing law the way we dreamed about doing it in school: Building the case for a better earth, on behalf of people and the planet.

This time last year, in the midst of a very thorough interview process, I would have said my holiday wish was to join the Ecojustice team. But then, the day before Christmas Eve, Ecojustice called to offer me the job. This year, I’m dreaming even bigger.

My holiday wish is for Canada to lead with actions, not words, toward a carbon-free future.

At Ecojustice, we’re committed to doing everything we can to make sure Canada starts pulling its weight when it comes to climate action. Soaring rhetoric must make way for tangible actions that reduce Canada’s carbon emissions. To that end, I’ve been working with my colleagues on some exciting climate work, which we can’t wait to share with you in the new year.

That’s not all we’re doing to hold polluters to account. I’ve also been part of the litigation teams fighting to clean up contaminated drinking water in Harrietsfield, Nova Scotia, get bee-killing pesticides off of Canadian crops, and prosecute the world’s biggest diamond mining company for breaking the law.

The environment cannot go to court to stand up for itself, which is why your support is so important. You make it possible for us to use our legal and scientific experience to take governments and industry to court — and win.

But we can’t do it alone. We need your help.

Thank you and happy holidays,

Julia
