I’m thrilled to introduce you to Beatrice Olivastri, who goes by Bea. Such a fitting name given that the bee cause is one close to her heart.

Bea leads Friends of the Earth Canada, one of four clients in our lawsuit to protect pollinators from neonicotinoid pesticides (neonics) and ensure that science informs decisions about how these harmful substances are regulated in Canada.

Bea is a tireless advocate for a healthy environment, which makes her an Ecojustice Hero in my eyes.

What’s great about Bea is her hands-on approach. Last year, she collected plant samples from garden centres in Ontario and sent them to the University of Guelph to be tested for neonics. When the tests confirmed the plants contained neonics and residues of banned cosmetic pesticides, the Ecojustice team worked with Bea to file an application calling on Ontario’s Ministry of the Environment and Climate Change to investigate the matter.

Your support made this legal action possible. Your support has also ensured that our neonics lawsuit will proceed to a full hearing later this year.

And now, you have the opportunity to have an even greater impact.

A generous Ecojustice supporter has pledged up to $50,000 to match, dollar-for-dollar, every donation made before July 1. Double your impact when you donate today in support of our ongoing work with Bea to protect pollinators.

DOUBLE YOUR IMPACT

Bees are hard-working, industrious creatures. Small but mighty. These qualities make me think of Bea and her hard work with Friends of the Earth Canada and Friends of the Earth International.

Bea is just one person. But like bees, who are responsible for one in every three bites of food you eat, she has an outsized impact. From participating in strategic litigation to leading educational efforts like the Great Canadian Bumble Bee Count, Bea draws on a wide range of tactics to address environmental issues.

That’s where you come in.

Ecojustice lawyers are preparing for a hard-earned hearing on the merits of our case to protect pollinators later this year. But we can’t win this case without you.

Please make a gift today and help us continue supporting heroes like Bea — and all of our clients — who are courageously fighting for a brighter environmental future.
