A Special Year End Matching Gift Opportunity

If you are considering a gift to Ecojustice this year end and have a choice between giving cash or securities, donating securities may give you greater tax savings as you do not pay capital gains tax when you give securities to a registered charity such as Ecojustice Canada.

And you will receive a charitable gift receipt for the full value of your gift.

When you transfer securities to a charity, such as Ecojustice, and the charity sells them, none of the gain will be taxed.

However, if the shares are sold by you and the proceeds sent to Ecojustice, 50% of the gain will be taxed and paid by you.

And so, if you plan to sell securities in order to make a charitable gift to Ecojustice, you may want to consider this ... your gift of securities donated directly to Ecojustice may make you eligible for a significant tax break.
