Hugh Wilkins, staff lawyer

Hugh Wilkins joined Ecojustice’s Toronto office in May 2006 bringing to the organization a wealth of experience in climate change, sustainable development and international law and policy.

His work includes the protection of the Greenbelt area around Toronto, ensuring public participation rights in environmental decision-making, compelling stronger government action on climate change, and working to ensure the sustainable development of Canada’s North.
 
Hugh completed his law degrees at Queen’s University and the London School of Economics. Before joining Ecojustice, he practiced civil litigation and administrative law at a firm in downtown Toronto.
 
He has also worked for the Foundation for International Environmental Law and Development (FIELD) in London, the International Institute for Sustainable Development (Earth Negotiations Bulletin), the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF-International), and IUCN.
 
He is a member of the IUCN Commission on Environmental Law and an adjunct professor at the Osgoode Hall Law School.
Hugh also edits an international law journal (Review of European Community and International Environmental Law). He lives in Toronto.
